During 2017, the public spaces initiative in Bogota rehabilitated more than 10,000 homes within different neighbourhoods of the city. The program was designed to improve the appearance with paint and the help of the community to beautify the area.
The people within the community are joyous and contributing with a government that has put a lot of pressure on the appearance of afflicted areas to appeal to visitors. Though an effort to unify the community it is appearance management for the areas that struggle to afford the time to paint their own home. This initiative was nice in theory, but it began to be costly for those living in Santa Fe de Bogota when they couldn’t paint their home. This became a revenue stream for Bogota’s municipal government to fine those who could not comply by a certain date.
